Our Suthar Samaj community comprises different gotras and vansh of some Kshatriya Rajput. Each gotra of the Suthar community has its own Kuldevi (goddess) to whom they have been worshipping for many centuries. Brahmani Mata

Other Names: Chatur Mukhi Mata, Chatur Bhuji Mata, Falodi Mata

Famous Dham: Merta Road, Nagaur (Rajasthan, India)

Brahmani Mata is a form of Saraswati Mata and is considered as Shakti of Hindu god Brahma Ji. She is one of the Sapt-Matrikas i.e. seven goddesses (i.e. Brahmani Mata, Vaishnavi Mata, Kaumari Mata, Varahi Mata, Maheshwari Mata, Indrani Mata & Chamunda Mata ). Brahmani Mata is usually depicted as four heads and four hands, and so she is also known by Chatur Mukhi (Chatur means four and Mukh means Face) and Chatur Bhuji (Chatur means four and Bhuja means Hands). The Famous Temple of Brahmani Mata located at Merta Road, Nagaur (Rajasthan) was built by Nahar Rao Parihar, former King of the kingdom of Pushkar.

Khimaj Mata

Khimaj Mata is an incarnation of Durga Mata. In the 10th century AD, King Mulraj Solanki constructed the temple of Khimaj Mata on the top of a 150 ft high hill in the village Dei, Bhinmal. This temple was then renovated by Mahajara Sidhraj Jaisinh Solanki of Gujarat. The community of Solanki Gotra considers Khimaj Mata as their Kuldevi.

Vankal Mata

Other Names: Viratra Mata, Vakrayi Mata, Vakrangi Mata

Vankal Mata or Viratra Mata is a Shakti of Hinglaj Mata. The temple of Vankal Mata is situated in the lap of hills of Viratra (Virana) in the tehsil Chohtan, district Barmer of Rajasthan. This temple of Vankal Mata was built around 2000 years ago by Veer Vikramaditya, the king of Ujjain. The king of Ujjain Veer Vikramaditya brought the idol of Shakti from Hinglaj Shakitipeeth and installed it on the hill of Viratra. The hills of Virata were previously known by the name Hiran Dungar due to the brown color of the hills like of color of deer, where Dungar means Mountain.

Ashapura Mata

Famous Dham: Nadol of district Pali (Rajasthan, India)

Ashapura Mata who is also known by the name Shakambhari Mata is Kuldevi (family goddess) of the Chauhan dynasty. The temple of Ashapura Mata at Nadol was built by Rao Lakshman Chauhan in the 10th century. Rao Chauhan built the temple of Ashapura Mata after he established his rule over Nadol with the blessings of Ashapura Mata. Rao Lakshman Chauhan was the first Chauhan ruler of Nadol and was a descendant of the Chauhan dynasty of Shakambhari.

Swangiya Mata

Other Names: Aavad Mata, Kalyani Devi Mata

Swangiya Mata is a Shakti or incarnation of Hinglaj Mata. Swangiya Mata were seven sisters and had a brother. They were born in the house of a bard named Mamdiya Charan in the 9th century.

Once upon a time, Mamdiya Charan visited Hinglaj Mata Dham seven times to get a child, in the year 808, Goddess Hinglaj was born in the house of Mamdiya in the form of seven daughters along with a brother. Among these, the elder sister was Awad Mata. The names of Awad’s other sisters were Aashi, Sesi, Gehli, Huli, Rupan, and Langde. Swangiya Mata is Kuldevi of the Bhati clan of Jaisalmer who are living in Rajasthan are around the world. There are various temples of Swangiya Mata with different names including Tanot Mata Temple, Bhadariya Mata Temple, Ghantyali Mata Temple, Temdi Mata Temple, Degrai Mata Temple, Gajrup Mata Temple &Kali-Dungar Mata Temple.

Yogamaya/Chilay Mata

Other Names: Jog Maya (Yoga Maya), Yogeshwari (Jogeshwari), Sarund (Sarang) Mata, Mansadevi

Famous Dham: Dehli, Patan, Kotputli, Bikaner

Chilay Mata also known as Yogamaya Mata was the incarnation of Durga Mata the sister of Lord Krishna. Chilay Mata is the Kuldevi (family goddess) of the Tanwar clan. Tanwar dynasty ruled at Dehli for hundreds of years and they are descendants of the Chandervanshi Pandavas. After the war of Mahabharat, Pandavas ruled at Hanstinapur and Indraprastha was its capital near present-day Dehli. Pandavas built the temple of their family deity Yogamaya Mata at their capital Indraprastha with the help of Lord Krishna. Since Yogamaya’s ride is on a bird eagle, she is also popular by the name Cheel/Chilak/Chilay Mata. Tomar rulers established various temples of Chilay Mata in different locations wherever they established their rule and settled.

Gajan Mata

Other Names: Chamunda Devi, Dharmdhari Mata

Gajan Mata is another name of Chamunda Devi, a form of Durga Mata. There are various temples of Chamunda Mata in India and around the world. The temple of Gajan Mata which is 1000 years old, is situated on the hills of village Dharmdhari village, tehsil Rohat of district Pali of Rajasthan India. Due to the village name Dharmdhari, Gajan Mata is also popular by the name Dharmdhari Mata. There is a popular history of Gajan Mata temple that describes who made the temple of her in Dharmdhari village and why Chamunda Mata is also popular by the name Gajan Mata there. The Parihar community of Rajasthan considers Gajan Mata as their Kuldevi (family goddess).

Baan Mata

Other Names: Bayen Mata, Baneshwari Mata, Vann Mata

The Sisodiyas as well as Guhila Rajput clans worship Baan Mata Ji as their Kuldevi. There are various accounts on Baan Mata that define how the Sisodiya dynasty has been worshipping Baan Mata as their Kuldevi. In one account, there was a Banasur, a demon who fought with Mata Ji. She conquered and killed him. Since then, she has been popular by the name Ban Mata. The famous temples or dhams of Baan Mata are located in Chittorgarh, Kelwara, Mewar, and other places.

Nagnechi Mata

Other Names: Chakreshwari Mata, Pankheni Mata, Nanganay Mata

Famous Dham: Nagana Village of Jodhpur district (Rajasthan)

The goddess Nagnechi Mata is the Kuldevi (family goddess) of Rathore dynasty. She is originally popular by the name Chakreshwari Mata which is the form of Durga Mata. Some people from the Rathore community consider Nagnechi Mata as a Shakti of Awadh Mata. According to historical texts, Rao Doohad Rathore son of Rao Asthan Rathore was the first who installed the statue of Nagnechi Mata and constructed a temple here at Nagana village in 1305 AD. Rao Asthan was the son of Rao Sinha Rathore who founded the Rathore dynasty in the state of Marwar.

Rao Doohad Rathod brought the idol of Nagnechi Mata from the city Kannauj where he met Guru Lumba Rishi who awarded the idol of Nagnechi to him. Based on the name of the village Nagana, Chakreshwari Mata became popular with the new name Nagnechi Mata. Another famous temple of Nagnechi Mata is located in Bikaner (Rajasthan).
