
Dr. Jhaman Das Suthar is a professional agriculturalist from the small village of Aaho in the Tharparkar district of Sindh, Pakistan. Growing up in the Tharparkar region, he developed a deep interest in enhancing agricultural productivity in the Thar Desert by managing the available underground saline water for irrigation. To pursue this mission, he came to the USA for postdoctoral research at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center in El Paso, TX, choosing a desert area for his research rather than other big cities in the USA.

Early Life & Family Background
Jhaman Das Suthar grew up in a small village Aaho of district Tharparkar and he came from a humble background family with limited financial means. His father Kirshan Lal worked in the Education Department as Peon. His father, Shree Kirshan Lal, worked as a peon in the Education Department and devoted his entire career to supporting Jhaman’s education, overcoming numerous challenges along the way. Jhaman’s uncle, Teekam Das, also played a crucial role, offering guidance and encouragement that paved the way for Jhaman’s success, helping him reach new heights in his journey.
Educational and Professional Career
Jhaman Das Suthar began his education in his home village of Aaho, where he completed his primary schooling. He then earned his matriculation from Government High School and continued his intermediate studies at Government Degree College in Mithi.
After completing his intermediate education, he enrolled at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam, where he graduated and completed his postgraduate degree in Soil Science in 2005. Following his studies, he gained valuable experience by working with various national organizations, including Engro Polymers & Chemicals Ltd., Sayban International, Thardeep, Khushali Bank, and others. After a decade of professional experience, he decided to further his academic journey and joined SAU Tandojam’s Ph.D. program in 2014.

During his Ph.D. studies, he was awarded two scholarships: one from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan as an Indigenous Ph.D. Scholarship to study in Pakistan, and another as a foreign scholarship to serve as a Visiting Ph.D. Scholar in the USA for six months of research. During this time, he also served as the Student Counselor for the Soil Science Society of Pakistan at the national level. He successfully completed his Ph.D. with a focus on bio-saline agriculture, addressing agricultural challenges in saline-affected regions, particularly in the Thar Desert.

After completing his postgraduate studies at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam, he gained over 10 years of professional experience while working with various renowned organizations. Following a decade-long gap in his academic journey, he enrolled in a Ph.D. program, which he successfully completed in 2019. In 2021, he joined the Agriculture Extension Department, Government of Sindh, as an Agriculture Officer (BPS-17). In 2024, he began his role as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center in the USA, a position awarded by Texas A&M University.
Books Authored
He published his work in a Sindh booklet titled ‘Evaluating Saline Water Tolerance in Guar.’ Additionally, he has published numerous research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, both nationally and internationally. He has also presented his research at various international conferences.
